FDA Finally Expresses Concern About BPA!

In a recent NY Times article, the Food and Drug Administration in a shift of position is expressing concerns about possible health risks from bisphenol-A, or BPA, a widely used component of plastic bottles and food packaging that it declared safe in 2008.

The agency said Friday that it had “some concern about the potential effects of BPA on the brain, behavior and prostate gland of fetuses, infants and children,” and would join other federal health agencies in studying the chemical in both animals and humans.

Just some concern???  Ezclearwater.com has been going on and on about the dangerous things that BPA does to you!  Hey FDA, get a clue!

I don’t mean to sound harsh, but you have to wonder how it ever got to this point.  Did big money just push through and the nation’s health is an afterthought?

WTF? Poisoning our Water in the Name of Energy Profits!

All in the name of profits!

All in the name of profits!

Water Number

: 77 billion barrels of contaminated “produced water” were generated worldwide in 2000 by oil and gas operations. This estimate comes from a 2003 Journal of Petroleum Technology article by Z. Khatib and P. Verbeek. In recent years this volume has increased as more and more gas is produced from marginal fields like the Marcellus Shales in Pennsylvania and the Barnett Shales in Texas and the Hilliard-Baxter-Mancos Shales in Wyoming. This water has begun to cause more and more health and environmental problems.

It’s not like this just came up on us!

We have been letting big business overule concerns about health and now we are all having to pay the price for it. From birth defects from our water supply, BPA, atrazine, arsenic and chloramines, it would seem we have traded dollars over people.

It doesn’t have to be that way, but you do have to be pro-active with the water you drink and bath with.  Whether you decide to go with a whole house water filtration system or just start with either an under the sink water filter, do something to insure your family is not exposed to these health hazards.

Tests find wide range of Bisphenol A in soups, juice, and more!

Consumer Reports’ latest tests of canned foods, including soups, juice, tuna, and green beans, have found that almost all of the 19 name-brand foods  tested contain some BPA.

The canned organic foods  tested did not always have lower BPA levels than nonorganic brands of similar foods analyzed. They even found the chemical in some products in cans that were labeled “BPA-free.”

They also tested for BPA in soup, vegetables, tuna, and other canned products as well as noncanned versions from leading manufacturers such as Campbell’s, Chef Boyardee, Del Monte, Nestlé, and Progresso, among others. Using outside laboratories, we tested three samples of each product, all bought in the New York metropolitan area or online. In all but one case, the three samples were of different lot numbers.

At the end of the day, this is scary stuff!  We need to protect our families as much as possible and we are relying on name brands such as the ones listed above to be about more than profits when it comes to our health and safety!

Country Unifying Against BPA In Products

s-BABY-BOTTLE-large

In a matter a few years at most, babies living in the USA will likely be off the BPA-laced formula. Washington Post documents two important developments which signal this likelihood. In Bills Would Ban BPA From Food and Drink Containers, WaPo reports that “Leaders from the House and Senate introduced legislation…that would establish a federal ban on bisphenol A in all food and beverage containers.”

What’s In Your Soup And Other Canned Foods?

Think BPA is just in platic containers? Think again buckoo!

Consumer Reports’ latest tests of canned foods, including soups, juice, tuna, and green beans, have found that almost all of the 19 name-brand foods tested contain measurable levels of Bisphenol A (BPA).

What this means is that if the health of your family is important (and whose family isn’t important?) you need to do all that you can to eliminate/minimize your exposure to BPA.

Having a great water filter in your house is a start.
