Things To Consider When Choosing A Home Water Filtration System!

There are lots of things you need to consider in choosing your a water filtration system for your home.  Here are some tips which should help:

  • Is the manufacturer  listed with NSF?
    • First, you need to know if it is tested and was able to meet the standard set by NSF.  Don’t risk your home’s safety, health and money on a home water filtration system that is not certified by NSF to perform what it claims.
  • Does the filter require a pre filter?
    • If it does, how frequent do you have to change it. Always remember that if requires a pre filter, it means additional cost and time consumed in the installation.
  • Does replacing the cartridge require  tools or backwashing?
    • Or when replacing, do you have to mess with a toxin-filled media? Or do you still need a plumber when you have to change your cartridge? There are whole house filtration system that offers Sanitary Quick Change Cartridge (SQC) making replacement of cartridge not an ordeal.
  • Is the filter NSF 42 certified only?
    • Most Home water filtration system are only tested and certified NSF 42: This means it only filters chlorine and sediments. There’s one I know that is NSF 42 and NSF 53 tested and certified which means it doesn’t only remove chlorine and sediments but those that are in the category of 53.
  • Does the filter use old fashioned carbon block filter?
    • There are already recent state of the art patented Hollow Carbon Media offered. They are far better that those old fashioned activated carbon block filters.
  • Do they claim 3 to 10 years of capacity?
    • As far as I know,  years of using the same cartridge or media as such and you’ll have one that will be filled with sooooo much bacteria. There’s nothing that could last that long. None that I know could stay sanitary  that long.
  • Is it proven even by the largest beverage producers in the world?
    • What do Coca Cola and Pepsi use as their filter in the water  to maintain the same quality of taste of their beverage that may be anywhere  in the whole world?
  • Does it provide additional benefit like high flow rates, low pressure drops, excellent organic reduction, 30 times the Chloramines Reduction than carbon block, 40 times more holding capacity and don’t swell in high TOCs?
  • Is it environment friendly too?  Or one that has lots of wastewater?
  •  Does it work for any water source?
    • Choose one that is ideal not only for municipal treated water, but also for well, lake,  river and even rainwater.

Why You Need A Water Filter When You Travel!

You often go to different places either to spend your vacation, visit a friend or relative, go hiking, camping or picnic. Sometimes you also have to travel to attend meetings, conferences, participate in a school activity at a nearby city or whatever.  Whatever might be the reason of your travel, you must prepare yourself and bring with you important things you need to protect yourself from anything.

How would you protect yourself from being exposed to risks largely related to water?  What pre-emptive measure should you make?  Be cautious, you must not depend on bottled water alone since it is no more than a tap water put in a bottle.  Laboratories who have conducted examination on both tap water and bottled water concluded that they are just the same.  So, if tap water is considered unsafe to use due to the presence of contaminants, pollutants, harmful substances and compounds, plus, of course, the environment problem brought about by the disposal of plastic gallons or plastic bottles.

The best option is to bring your own water filter!

There are portable water filters. Something that you could carry with you as you go to different places. Don’t worry too much!!!! It’s handy. And there’s the ceramic water filter. It’s recyclable. Unlike plastic gallons or plastic bottles, ceramic is an element of the earth so it could get back to the Earth without harming it.

One more thing why you need water when you travel is the presence of chloramines, chlorine, lead and other harmful elements in the water. You would need a filter that would be able to remove all these unwanted compounds from water to make safer for you to use.

So why do you need a water filter when you travel?  For you to have a safer and cleaner water to use wherever you maybe.

So what are you waiting for? You know your family deserves the best. Check our home page to see which products would work best for you!

6 Things You Should Know About Bottled Water!

With the myriad of choices out there, how do you pick one that provides you with hydration, MINUS the hype? Water companies make fancy claims, but think about it: These companies are competing for your attention in a market where there is really no need for additives. Devise a game plan for water that makes waves!

  1. Choose water without artificial sweeteners or added . Terms like Aspartame (brand name Nutrasweet), Sucralose (brand name Splenda), are artificial and have no place lurking in your water! Add lemon, lime, a slice of orange or even cucumber to your beverage for refreshment.  Or, choose a bottled water like Metromint (www.metromint.com) that uses mint essence and natural flavorings. Create a splash of flavor by freezing blueberries and raspberries in ice cube trays. Add the frozen berries to sparkling water and serve in fancy glasses for a special occasion.
  2. Become Ingredient Savvy. Just as an embellished “beverage” at your local coffee joint can set you back more calories than a hamburger, flavored waters can have calorie and sugar levels that rival soda. Check the ingredients and look for the term “water” without a list of lots of other ingredients.
  3. Beverages aren’t Real Food. With the exception of soups and smoothies, beverages do not provide us with a feeling of fullness or satiety, the way a meal does. For example, an ounce of almonds contains 160 calories, 3 gm fiber and 6 gm protein, and can help tide us over between meals. But sip a 160 calorie sugar-infused water and you’re likely to be just as hungry as you were before, if not more. The sugar causes your body to secrete insulin and you may find yourself on a high/low blood sugar rollercoaster.
  4. Steer clear of terms that belong in your science textbook. In other words, many waters use coloring, flavors and preservatives that are anything but natural. If you can’t decipher the terminology on the bottle, cruise on to clearer waters. It may surprise you, but preservatives such as sodium benzoate (known to be carcinogenic or cancer-causing) are still used in beverages you find on the grocery store shelf. Scary, huh?
  5. Bottled isn’t always Better. Interestingly, bottled water is not necessarily any healthier than tap water, despite what water companies would have you believe. “20/20″ took five bottles of bottled water plus a sample of tap water and sent them to a microbiologist to test for bacteria. Surprisingly, there was no difference between the tap water and the bottled waters.  To help the environment, you might also think about investing in a permanent water bottle such as our stainless steel water bottle.
  6. Sail past the waters with hyped up health claims. Because it is difficult for one water company to distinguish itself from another, companies use clever packaging and fancy words to compete for consumers’ attention. They convince you that you will feel younger, more invigorated, soothed, energized, beautiful, etc. if you drink their water. Now, let’s be realistic. If there exists a fountain of youth, it is simply this: Eat Well, Get Adequate Rest and Exercise and Take Care of Your Spirit.

Sometimes less is more, and with water, this is the case, plain and simple.

Top 10 Cities With The Worst Water!

The thing that jumped out at me when I looked at the list is it would seem if you are either in the Navy or work in a Naval town, you have a good chance of living in one of the worst cities for water quality according to the Environmental Working Group.

The research and advocacy group looked at water quality tests performed by water utilities since 2004 and created an extensive database that contains info on the contaminants found in 48,000 communities in 45 states.

What does this mean?

The upshot of all of this is that if you happen to live in one of the towns listed in this report, your water supply may be exposing you to contaminants that you may not want to either ingest or even come into body contact with.

Knowing what is in your water is key!

Once you know which contaminants are present, you can find the best filter to get rid of them.

Is bottled water the answer?

We agree with the report that buying bottled water is not the answer.   It’s expensive and takes a toll on the planet with the millions and millions of plastic bottles that are the aftermath.

Cities with the worst water:

  1. Pensacola, FL
  2. Riverside, CA
  3. Las Vegas, NV
  4. Riverside County, CA
  5. Reno, NV
  6. Houston, TX
  7. Omaha, NE
  8. North Las Vegas, NV
  9. San Diego, CA
  10. Jacksonville, FL

Your city not on the list? Here is the full 100-city listing.
