About Chloramine
Chloramine is the combination of chlorine and 20% ammonia.
Municipal water departments are changing from free chlorine to chloramine
primarily because one of the disinfection byproducts (DBPs) of
chlorination is Trihalomethanes (THMs or TTHMs) which is now known to be
seriously carcinogenic. Trihalomethanes are VOCs, volatile organic
chemicals.
Few of the disinfection byproducts of Chloramines are known. One
that is known is iodoacid. According to Dr. Michael J. Plewa,
a genetic toxicology expert at the University of Illinois hired by the EPA
to study the effects of Chloramine, iodoacids are the most toxic and
genotoxic (cell damaging) DBP in mammalian cells. Read full

In older homes and buildings, including schools, where lead solder was used on
copper pipe, chloramine causes the lead to leach from the solder and
cause lead levels in the water to become extremely unsafe!.
Chloramine is causing other adverse reactions with people, including
respiratory problems, extreme skin irritation, immune system
problems, digestive and gastric problems. For more information
